About Us
Over the last 15 years, we have established ourselves as a leading educational non-profit that paves the way for refugee education and employability in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We champion equality and access by and with refugees to bridge learning gaps and nurture self reliance to build a truly inclusive society. We have served 700+ students at Fugee School and are currently working with partners and community leaders to exercise a child's right to education.

What We Do & Why We Do It
Fugee School is a refugee learning centre, recognized by UNHCR Malaysia. As the right to public education is stripped away from refugee children, learning centres, like Fugee School, provide children with a holistic value based education. Fugee School is a safe space for a child to enjoy their childhood as they explore and learn. At the tertiary level, students struggle to gain enrolment into Universities due to financial burden and lack of information.
Our HiEd Scholarship program and youth programs aim to tackle these issues and increase graduation rate. Education is important for refugee children to assimilate into society, improve individual well-being and gain financial stability. With support of our various stakeholders, Fugee has created a complete educational journey for a refugee child to learn, grow and become successful agents of change.
With a mix of refugee, local and international members, the Fugee team consists of core members and school teachers. A world in which every individual has the right to quality education and job opportunities to participate in and contribute to all facets of life.

Refugees in Malaysia
Malaysia is not signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol. Refugees here do not have access to education, formal employment and healthcare. Even so, there are over 180,000 refugees in Malaysia and 46,000 of them are children. The community lives in constant fear and exploitation in various sectors including work and education. It is by the intervention of UNHCR Malaysia, local NGOS and social enterprises that the community is able to thrive in these unstable conditions. Malaysia is a transition country for refugees from all around the world. Families wait for resettlement – a process which can take years.
